ISSCO

ISSCO, originally the "Dalle Molle Institute for Semantic and Cognitive Studies", is now a research group which is part of the School of Translation and Interpretation (ETI) / Multilingual Information Processing Unit (TIM), at the University of Geneva. We carry out work in the field of natural language processing (NLP).

Overview

ISSCO was founded by the Dalle Molle Foundation in 1972 and was based in Lugano, Switzerland. It moved to Geneva in 1976. ISSCO's mandate was research into cognition and semantics, however over the years the institute has come to specialise in natural language processing and, in particular, in multilingual language processing and translation issues. Sister institutes, originating from the Dalle Molle Foundation, are IDSIA (Istituto Dalle Molle di Studi sull'Intelligenza Artificiale), in Lugano, and IDIAP (Institut Dalle Molle d'Intelligence Artificielle Perceptive), in Martigny.

ISSCO is involved in a large number of Swiss and European research projects, either as a coordinator or as a participant. ISSCO's work is reflected in the publications of its members, in the working papers, and in the tutorials and workshops organized either within a given project or as stand-alones.

Currently ISSCO is part of the École de Traduction et d'Interprétation where post-graduate studies involving translation technology can be carried out. If you are interested in post-graduate studies, please consult the relevant pages for programmes run within the ETI.
